New year, new stock of interesting and unusual plants!

What do you know about Agaves?

Winter is an ideal time for planting and English Woodlands is delighted to introduce you to some unusual and highly desirable new stock! If you crave something a little different which will remind you of sunnier times, come and see several different varieties of Agaves. These succulent plants are ideal for a free-draining gravel garden and are also perfect for patio pots.

Being semi-hardy, Agaves require protection in severe cold weather. When planted in containers they can easily be moved to a sheltered position. Give them well drained soil and direct sunlight. Take a look on the website at Agave lophantha, A. multifilifera A. parrasana and Agave titanota 'Blue' -  these are all different in terms of shape and colour.

Bursting into winter flower

Edgeworthia chrysantha is just about to start flowering - mid-winter! It has silky cream buds which open to scented yellow flowers - something to look forward to!

Plants for winter structure

Always popular, English Woodlands now has new stock of bay half standards - ideal in contemporary, formal or herb gardens or in containers by a sunny entrance.

Also always in demand - Photinia Red Robin standards - they provide evergreen screening that can be pruned to provide an effective 'hedge on legs' or planted as a single specimen - new bright red spring foliage makes this a popular tree.

English Woodlands also has a great selection of quality hedge plants, including new stock of Elaeagnus 60-80cm. This evergreen hedge grows well in windy, even salt wind locations, and has a small cream fragrant flower. It is very fast-growing and will soon form an effective hedge.

Euonymus 'Bravo' is another wind-tolerant shrub that can be used for hedging, it is slower growing than Elaeagnus so can be kept neat for a low hedge.
